Remember to observe the power equation while swimming. Power is defined as Force times Velocity. That means you need to apply strong pressure on your stroke at the same time that you are pulling your hand/arm rapidly through the water.

Sun Yang

6’6 Sun Yang outraced Ryan Cochrane in the 1,500 at the World Championships in August 2013. For most of the race, Yang was holding 53-56 strokes per minute while the shorter Cochrane was holding 73-74 strokes per minute. That’s a huge difference and Cochrane never had a chance when Yang kicked his stroke rate up to 71 stokes per minute and blazed a 54.6 on his last 100. He finished with a 14:41.15, beating Cochrane by a body length.

Olympic Dreams

The Olympic swimming competition was inspiring. Sun Yang, with his long, smooth stroke in the 1,500, was amazing. And of course, Michael Phelps, finishing his career with 22 medals will likely not be equaled in a long time.

Swimming with the Bulls on Cinco de Mayo

Words you do NOT want to hear when you participating in a 2.4 mile beach swim on the Florida Gulf Coast: "There's a pod of dolphins and a six-foot bull shark right behind you. You need to go in now!"

Here's an article that can help you improve your freestyle:

Swimming in Iceland

We spent a week in Iceland in the fall of 2011. Iceland is an amazing country full of wonderful outdoor swimming pools. Our favorite aquatic facility had indoor and outdoor 50 meter pools, all with lap lanes. The temperature was a comfortable 30 degrees C using geothermally heated water. Following the swim, we sat in "hot pots" that are considerably warmer. The locals sit in the hot pots and play chess on floating chess boards.

14 Years in the Pool

It has been 14 years since we released The Waterproof Coach: The Waterproof Workout Book for Fitness Swimmers and Triathletes. Discover why thousands of swimmers world-wide have purchased this unique, self-paced workout book. This book, intended for both fitness swimmers and triathletes, is completely waterproof. Swimmers can take the book pool-side and plan their workout as they swim. The workouts are presented on heavyweight waterproof pages. Each page is cut into three segments--the first segment contains a warm up, the second a main set, and the third a cool down. Containing 30 pages of workouts, the book can easily be configured into over 6,700 different workouts by combining any warm up with any main set and any cool down. In other words, if the book is used three days a week, it will take over 40 years before the same workout is repeated.

The book presents three levels of workouts, from beginner to intermediate. The three segments allow swimmers to mix and match their workouts by combining any of the levels together. Swimmers can simply vary their routine by flipping the segments.

All of our books are 100% made in the USA so the quality is assured.
